This miniature teapot water dropper is decorated with colorful flowers and butterflies in two curved panels on the body of the pot. The lid has a deep green glass bead finial, and is also enameled. It stands just 1.5 inches tall without the handle extended, 2 inches with the handle. The water dropper itself measures 1 1/4 inches long, and an inch wide at the front. It is triangular in shape.
Traditionally a water dropper is a small device used in East Asian calligraphy as a container designed to hold a small amount of water. In order to make ink a few drops of water are dropped onto the surface of an inkstone. By grinding an inkstick into this water on the inkstone, particles come off and mix with the water, forming ink.
